Traveler Feedback

Fewer than 500,000 people visit Mali each year, but those that do have lots to see and say about this unique country. While globalization may be ubiquitous in other countries, in Mali it has yet to play a significant role. Some of its major symbols are the ubiquitous cell phone, battered imported Mercedes taxis, piles of used clothes and pirated goods in traditional street markets, and remittances sent from abroad to support families. The images and observations of a unique country are endless.

A SPECIAL PLACE

Visitors feel they are in a very special place that beats its own drums and plays its own music. Women dress in colorful attire to either go shopping or set up shop in chaotic makeshift markets. Large extended families, including hustlers who constantly target tourists, stay connected with relatives in villages, towns, and cities as well as to friends and relatives who work abroad. Talented musicians speak a universal language along streets, at festivals, and in bars and nightclubs. And the desert, rivers, inland delta, escarpment, agricultural, and village scenes are often breathtaking.

In this section we provide a basic visual orientation to this special country and its unique peoples by providing links to numerous informative videos and stunning photos of Mali.
